An AI financial assistant that reads your own data
Ask a general AI chatbot how much you spent on food delivery last quarter and it cannot answer, because it has never seen your transactions. It can only explain personal finance in general terms, which is the part you could already read anywhere. The useful distinction is not how good the model is. It is whether it can see your data.
The problem: generic advice is the part that was never scarce
There has never been a shortage of correct general financial advice in India. Spend less than you earn, clear high-interest debt first, keep utilisation low. People do not fail for want of that information. They fail because nobody applies it to their specific numbers.
- A general chatbot answers "what is a good credit score" but not "why did mine drop in July"
- It can explain balance transfers but cannot tell you whether yours is worth doing at your rate and your remaining tenure
- It will confidently produce a budget for a salary you told it, ignoring what you actually spend
- Advice you have to translate into your own situation is advice most people do not act on
What changes when the AI can see your transactions
The questions become answerable, and more importantly they become specific enough to act on.
- "What do I spend on food delivery" returns a number for your last twelve months, not a national average
- "Which subscriptions am I paying for" returns the actual list, including the ones that renewed after a free trial
- "Why was March expensive" returns the three charges that made it expensive
- "Should I move this loan" is answered against your rate, your outstanding and your remaining tenure
- "Which card should I use at the supermarket" is answered from what your cards actually earn on your actual spending
The honest limits
Worth stating, because an AI over-trusted with money is worse than no AI at all.
- It reports what your data shows. If a bank alert never arrived, the transaction is not there
- Cash is invisible to every app of this kind, including this one
- It is not a registered investment adviser and will not tell you which stock or fund to buy
- Numbers should be checked against your statement before you act on something large
- It cannot see accounts you have not connected, which is the most common reason an answer looks wrong
How Unyfy implements this
The assistant runs on the transaction data Unyfy has already parsed and categorised, which is what makes the answers specific rather than plausible.
- Reads bank and card alerts, statement PDFs and, if you allow it, transaction emails - Gmail access is optional
- Categorised by merchant and brand, so questions can be asked in ordinary language rather than by category code
- Available on Premium at Rs 99 a month; the underlying analysis and hidden-charge detection are on the free plan
- What Unyfy reads and stores, and how to revoke access in under a minute, is set out at /is-it-safe-to-connect-gmail
Common questions
Can AI help manage my personal finances in India?
Only usefully if it can see your transactions. A general chatbot can explain concepts but cannot tell you what you spent, which subscriptions renewed, or whether your loan is mispriced. An assistant connected to your own parsed transaction data can answer all three specifically.
Is it safe to let an AI read my bank transactions?
It depends on what the app reads, what it stores as opposed to reads, and whether you can revoke access yourself. Those are the questions to ask any such app before connecting anything. Unyfy sets out its answers, including revocation in under a minute, on its Gmail trust page.
Does the Unyfy AI assistant cost extra?
It is part of Premium at Rs 99 a month. The transaction parsing, categorisation, hidden-charge detection and card and loan analysis that it draws on are available on the free plan.
