Money Clarity

    Moneyview alternatives in India

Moneyview began as a money manager and became a lending business - a unicorn that has filed for an IPO, with store listings now built around personal loans and UPI. The tracking still exists. It is just no longer the point of the app. If you want tracking without a loan funnel, these are the options and their honest trade-offs.

The problem: you installed a tracker and got a lender

This is not a complaint about Moneyview specifically. It built a real lending business and it is good at it. But someone who downloaded a money manager and now opens a personal loan app has a genuine mismatch, and the app store listing is the clearest evidence of it.

    • The App Store and Play Store listings are now titled around personal loans, credit cards and UPI
    • The money manager function remains, but it is one surface inside a lending product
    • Loan eligibility is computed from the same transaction data you granted for tracking
    • The company is a unicorn that has filed for an IPO, which sets the direction of travel for the product

How much of a problem this is, honestly

Worth being precise. For a lot of people this changes nothing. For some it changes something specific and worth naming.

    • The tracking itself is still good - automatic SMS capture and categorisation are among the better implementations in India
    • If you are in the market for a loan, having eligibility computed from your real data is a genuine convenience, not a trap
    • If you are not, you are looking at credit offers every time you check what you spent on groceries
    • The real cost is attention, and the drift toward taking credit because it is one tap away rather than because you decided to

The alternatives, by what you are optimising for

Pick the category first. The ranking inside a category matters far less than choosing the right category.

    • Automatic capture, closest replacement: axio (formerly Walnut, now owned by Amazon) - same model, same trade-off
    • Tracking with no separate app: Jupiter, Fi or your bank’s own app, which see everything through that account without permissions
    • No bank access at all: Monefy or Money Manager by Realbyte, where you log manually and nothing is read
    • Complete control, zero monetisation: a spreadsheet, which remains the only option where nobody is selling anything

Where Unyfy is different, and where it is not

Unyfy also refers loans and cards. The distinction is not purity, it is sequencing, and it is fair to be sceptical of that distinction until you have used it.

    • Unyfy’s output is what you are losing - recurring charges you forgot, a loan priced above what you would be offered today, a card that does not match your spending
    • A credit product appears only when your own numbers show a specific gap, with the gap shown next to it
    • There is no permanent loan tile, because a permanent loan tile is an advertisement regardless of what it is called
    • If you want budgeting envelopes, goal tracking and detailed category rules, Moneyview does more of that than Unyfy does

    Common questions

Is Moneyview still an expense tracker?

The money manager function still exists, but the app is now positioned around personal loans, credit cards and UPI, which is what the current App Store and Play Store listings say. Moneyview is a lending unicorn that has filed for an IPO, and the product reflects that.

What is a good expense tracker without loan offers?

Manual apps like Monefy or Money Manager by Realbyte show no credit offers because they have no bank access and no lending business. The trade-off is that you log every transaction yourself, and incomplete months are common. A spreadsheet is the only option with no commercial interest at all.

Moneyview or Walnut - which is better for tracking?

They are now the same kind of product. Walnut is axio, owned by Amazon since September 2025 and built around credit; Moneyview is a lending company with tracking inside it. On the automatic capture itself, both are competent, and the choice comes down to which interface you tolerate.

Every free money app in India is funded by something, and in almost every case that something is credit. The test worth applying is not whether an app shows you loans, but whether it shows you one because your data revealed a problem or because it had a slot to fill.
